I'm back from my semi-annual Truth and Victory Roadshow. After two weeks deep in Blue-land I am so shell-shocked with my return to the World of JEB! that my critical thinking resources are overwhelmed.
The Iguana has some predictions for the coming year and strangely enough, he is once again in synch with my thoughts:
Now that everybody and his brother have made their predictions for the year, the Iguana would like to step in and say "you've tried the rest, now try the best" or alternatively "you need a rest, try a chicken breast".
Anyway, here's my predictions:
1. Terror attack 2006 scheduled for August in a blue state possibly in the west.
2. Election stolen (again). Between Terror Attack 2.0 and Diebold, repugs manage to eke out control of Congress despite confidence in their party falling to historic lows. Election results explained as "miracle" for GOP.
3. Iran war makes its way slowly thru UN. Gets approval from UN but not in time for rollout in 2006, instead rescheduled to early 2007. War on Syria postponed to 2008.
You can make predictions too, in the comments.
Curiously enough, the comments are as enlightening and entertaining as the predictions.
Comments
OBL said the attacks will be reminiscent of Spain and UK. Out west, the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) trains run right under San Francisco Bay. That's been my guess for a long time. They could kill a lot of people, jam up the commute for years, and flood or otherwise short out the transit system for a long time. Might have an effect on shipping in the Bay as well.
If Bush gets a wild hair put up his ass, he's just liable to nuke Iran. Before they have nukes of their own, of course. He wouldn't dare take the first shot at No. Korea cuz they already have theirs.
Dude, what comments are you talking about? This one?
I noticed that Osama binBoogieman is back to fire up the bedwetters.
If Gop do win in November, look for the draft in 2007 for Bush's Iran thing to start.
Doug, it's a likely bet, but facts and history argue that a 2007 draft law would be a long time wending its way through Congress, and would be met with tremendous opposition from the general public. Additionally, it takes more than a year to produce a useful field army once the inductions have begun.Eight weeks of basic training, teach a trainee the simple basics of soldiering. Then you have ten days to two weeks leave before the traineee reports for his advanced training, during which he learns the basic functions of his speciality, be it infantry, artillery, armor, signals, etc. American policy is to further season such troops in stateside units, allowing them to learn how to properly apply the lessons of their training, before putting them into combat. This is a simple military fact.
The decision to attack Iran would most likely require the formation of additional brigades and divisions. These units must first train, learning to operate together before deployment. The whole process requires a one year lead time, which would put the Iran attack into 2008, or later.
Can you guarantee that a new officeholder in the White House would be willing to continue with the plan to destroy Iran that was so calculatedly put forward by Bu$hCo? I can't, unless, as Gordon points out, there is a new attack that is so bold, so audacious and horrifying that national unity is forged.
There is a strong argument that the next attack will be some form of a nuclear event, whether an explosion or a "dirty" bomb, leaving some area(s) of the country poisoned and unusable for decades to come. This would give Bu$hCo the opening to use nuclear weapons in response, a tactic they seem to be dearly attached to. Then the floodgates could well open for everyone.
There is a lot of uncertainty in all this. The only certain thing I see is that the nuclear event(s) will be in Blue cities and Blue states.
Merlallen, the comments follow the predictions, and several are very sensible. I especially like the one about the argument to repeal the 22nd Amednment, using the argument that a continuity of national executive leadership is required. Since the "War on Terror" has often been described as "endless" Mr Bush would have what he clearly adores: a job for life, and unfettered authority to do whatever he feels like, from moment to moment.
the nuclear event(s) will be in Blue cities and Blue states.
Good point. There's nothing worth blowing up or irradiating in Red states. Maybe Disney World, but OBL's probably got a piece of that.
Well..... there ARE all those meth labs in the red states....

I used to be a crankster gangster about 15-20 years ago. I'm glad I quit. This new stuff from cold pills is flat-out poison.
