More stop-loss, more indications of a broken force:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Army has forced about 50,000 soldiers to continue serving after their voluntary stints ended under a policy called "stop-loss," but while some dispute its fairness, court challenges have fallen flat.

The policy applies to soldiers in units due to deploy for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The Army said stop-loss is vital to maintain units that are cohesive and ready to fight. But some experts said it shows how badly the Army is stretched and could further complicate efforts to attract new recruits.

...

Aside from the fact of the manpower shortages, who's going to deal with these poor bastards when they get home with PTSD on steroids? Repeated deployments in that hellhole without battle lines can only serve to destroy one's psyche. Does anyone think the Chimp and his chickenhawks will increase the VA budget to deal with the 'mental casualties' from this war? Not this old vet.

You always hear the Bush Apologists saying soldiers are re-upping at higher than peacetime rate. Anyone know the stats on this?
