"Pervasive Stench"

David Brooks appeared on Jim Lehrer’s “News Hour” program hosted by Ray Rodriguez, and is now on record about Republican criminal graft. Brooks stated that the Abramoff scandal seems to be enough to scuttle Delay and “several other Congressmen.”

This might be significant, because Brooks has been the semi-official towel boy for the Republicans for at least 6 years. His columns in the NY Times have been a constant litany of NRC talking points, and he’s always found some way to knife the Dems in the process. Delusional as he is about life in the Real World beyond the Beltway he seems to feel that there is trouble a-brewing not only in Congress, but that “a few people maybe in the Executive Branch” as well as people in the “activist community” mentioning specifically Grover Norquist, Ralph Reed, and “some columnists” who have been found to have accepted money.

When they’ve got Brooksie publicly admitting his beloved GOP is in trouble – it IS in trouble.

Mark Shields also was on the program and he nailed this blossoming scandal to the GOP. “This is a Republican problem.” “This scandal has an “absolutely pervasive stench to it.”

Thanks to Crooks and Liars for the video lead.

I can't even take Brooksie (let alone Rush), but here is a not bad NYT article about the "debate" (if you're one of the 1600 Crew) over how to maintain an effective military presence, now in Iraq, as well as overall military strategy.

When little Dave is shaking, things are getting serious.

I think the moderator's name is Ray Suarez. No big deal.

You're right, Gordon. Thanks for the correction.
