Chaos as Uaual

South Florida is shaking to its roots today. Dear Leader is down here, visiting in Miami, theoretically to assure the Loyal Fascists in Miami-Dade (the largest city in Central America) that he has no intention of abandoning them to die helplessly the way he allowed those awful dark-skinned Democratic supporters to pass through the veil in New Orleans. I’m sure the various Cuban exile groups (who will never go back to Viejo Cuba) were suitably grateful and loaded AF 1 with many bags of cash. Theoretically he’s down here to visit with the FEMA and National Hurricane Center folks to check up on hurricane preparedness.

As he was leaving Washington, there was the mandatory statement that he regrets the loss of life in Lebanon and I’m sure some people believed him, although more and more seem to understand that when Mr Bush says “Good Morning,: it’s time to go home, put on your jammies, and get into bed.

It’s expected Mr Bush will speak about the economy at a dinner in Miami Beach. I wonder if he will assure them that the proposed sell-off of oil and gas leases less than 100 miles off the Gulf Coast of Florida will be perfectly safe, and the #1 industry down here, tourism, won’t suffer?

Snort !

Tourism used to be the #2 industry, behind agriculture, but between the environmentally repulsive methods Big Sugar uses, and the citrus canker epidemic that has destroyed so much of our orange and grapefruit fields, citrus farming is something you read about in a book.

Will it surprise anyone to learn that JEB!, Mr Bush’s younger brother, has been governor for almost 8 years, and he is responsible for the continuing death of the Everglades as well as the death of citrus farming? No, I didn’t think so.

The really exciting news tonight is that Fidel Castro had to have emergency surgery for a bleeding ulcer and temporarily vested the powers of the Presidency in his younger brother, Raul. It’s reported that crowds massed in Little Havana this evening, dancing and singing and generally celebrating. I guess this is some sort of symbolic victory over Communism.

Viva Cuba Libre!

So what are the chances of a Dem winning the Gov. job down there?

Can't have a real World War without more than one front! Will the invasion start through Gitmo and continue westward and then down to Venezuela?

The chances appear to be pretty good, although we do have those crooked Republican (sorry for the oxymoron) voting machines.

And yeah, that no-good Chavez has our oil down there, doesn't he?

Oh crap, I forgot you guys have Diebold!
No Democrats getting elected there, except the unopposed!

Hey Lurch.

This is a bit off topic - Israel has planned to expand their ground offesnive deeper into Lebanon, with the stated reason being to find the missile launching sites and then suppress them.

Is this even a feasible tactic? This was written by a guy in Turkey:

"The Katyushas are express speed missiles, reaching their targets in a very short time.

It is nearly impossible to destroy these missiles in the air with today’s technology.

Furthermore, as they are highly mobile and easy to hide, it is also very difficult to identify their location in advance.

Apparently, the Israeli army strives to destroy these missiles by determining where they are hidden. They use observation tools to detect and follow the smoke emitted from the missiles when fired, and then direct canons to these locations.

However, looking at the current situation, we can see that even these attempts are not successful.

So far Hezbollah has launched more than a thousand Katyuhas onto Israeli territory, an open display of Israel’s weakness against the Katyusha missiles.

In short, today there is no one hundred percent efficient system against the Katyushas.

The only solution is to occupy the places where the missiles are launched, to search everywhere, to find and destroy them, to keep the region under occupation and control them from being launched again.

This is; however, certainly not possible in today’s conditions. "

It seems by expanding their offensive, Israel is setting itself for problems similar to our occupation in Iraq.

As they go searching for these mobile weapons they set themselves up for ambushes and being sniped - no?

Seems like such a clear bait and hook by Hezbollah.

What is Israel thinking? I think I understand the Hezbollah end game ( which is to mimic the Iraqi insurgent strategy of endless razor cuts ), but not Israel's.

Don't kinow if you have an opinion - but if you do, I am always more than happy to listen.

Actually, 'crooked Republican' is a redundancy. 'Honest Republican' would be an oxymoron, like Rush Limpbaugh.

You make some salient points, Killer. Katyushas can be fired from stationary points as far as I know, but my perception was that Hezbollah was firing them off truck bodies, as the Red Army did. If that's so, unless you have air assets right there in the neighborhood, isn't it useless to go after them? I think (maybe) predator-type UAVs, armed with Hellfire missiles or some equivalent weapon might be a good answer, but we haven't heard about Israel using UAVs as far as I know.

Israel might well be planning to carve out a sanitized 20 km buffer zone, but there would have to be continuing surveillance and covert patrolling to keep it clear. Too bad for the Lebanese who used to live in that area, eh?

And, yes, I agree with you. Creating that cleared zone is going to be expensive in money, lives, and international backlash.

Israel tried occupying a buffer zone between 1982 and 2000, and that didn't work out so well for them, politically.

Umm... opps.

I'm a baaaad boy. I knew that. It must have been....

the meds, yeah, that's it. The meds. I like the meds but they don't like me.

?? Rush Limpbaugh ?? Is that anything like "when the baugh breaks, the cradle will fall" ?

Heres what Zymphora was taiking about last week . Wednesday, July 26, 2006 The next trick (in a series of tricks)

Bearing in mind that one of the main points of the exercise was to steal Lebanese water from the Litani River (the military operation wasn’t called ‘Summer Rain’ for nothing!), the next Israeli trick will be to build a ‘security strip’ in southern Lebanon, at least until the world can come up with an international ‘peacekeeping force’. Of course, participating in such a force would be a political disaster, as the casualties from Hezbollah attacks would be enormous (as would the number of innocent civilians murdered by the ‘peacekeepers’). As instructed by the Jewish Billionaire’s Club, the usual suspects for the ‘peacekeepers’ will demur, thus leaving the Israeli ‘security strip’ as a permanent feature of south Lebanon (Kurt Nimmo makes the excellent point that the intentional targeting of UN officials – I’m waiting for the inevitable apology of Kofi Annan for having the audacity to point out the obvious truth – is a warning to the international community to stay out). It will be just wide enough to allow Israel to grab the water! Once Israel grabs the water, it will rely on it (filling the settler’s swimming pools), and will never return it, as – and you know the drill already – forcing Israel to return what it has stolen is an ‘existential threat’ to Israel, a trick by anti-Semites who just want to force the Jews ‘into the sea’.

Where have I heard this kind of thing before? Oh yeah, the settlements in the Occupied Territories, originally a ‘temporary’ measure to ensure Israeli ‘security’. The Israeli Ratchet – the idea that Israel’s ongoing quest to steal land from its neighbors never stops, except for a few head fakes like the temporary withdrawals from Lebanon and Gaza, but continues to build on the lands previously stolen – will continue in Lebanon. Once part of Lebanon is stolen, the environmental stresses caused by the theft of much of its water will lead to further crises, which will entail further Israeli military interventions, in Lebanon and elsewhere (the destruction of Syria is next on the Zionist Plan), and on and on and on. . . . When is the world going to wake up and realize that the logic of Zionism – the idea that Israel, the only country in the world without established borders, has a G-d-given right to a great swath of the Middle East, and won’t stop provoking and agitating and conniving to put itself in a position to steal more of this land – is going to lead to more and more serious problems until the world is embroiled in a World War? ( fill up swimming pools for settlers )
