Driving While Russian

In the new, more prosperous Russia, there are more cars, and perhaps more vodka.

The light at the end of the tunnel is often an ambulance beacon.

In Russia, the 'everyman's' vodka comes in bottles with foil instead of caps. Once you tear it off, the entire bottle is intended to be consumed.

Russian cars ain't much worse after a crash, and neither are the Russians. They're tough.

I saw Russian vodka in Germany when I was there after Nam. Some of it was pretty terrible stuff, although I did have some peppered vodka once, - never mind where - that was bearable. With the Ossie version of Kommisbrot and served cold enough it made caviar almost swallowable, although my drinking partners were scandalized when I suggested cheese with the bread.

In that video, some of the cars were new, shiny, German, and expensive. And the delivery trucks were Swedish - not cheap.

And yeah, pre-sedated crash victims often do quite well in accidents.

The custom of 'peppering' vodka comes from the old days when there was a lot of 'bathtub' shit (better to make booze than be clean, after all!). The pepper settled noxious byproducts, like fusel oil.

Thank you for that. It makes sense. But what about the vodka with the gold flakes in it? That couln't have been for the proles or petit bourgeoisie.

All that glitters is not gold, my friend.

Now ya got me watchin' Russian car wrecks! You must really know your cars to be able to tell what makes those are. The 3-lane fishtailing artic tunnel sweeper was good!

Wasn't Lefortovo an infamous KGB prison? That'd be like calling a tunnel here the 'Alcatraz tunnel'.

Lefortovo was the KGB prison you didn't want to see, second to Lubyanka. IIRC, Lubyanka was a "reception" station, where you were initially "debriefed", and when wrung dry were sentenced to Lefortovo.

I liked watching the articulated bus, myself. "This is gonna hurt."
