Biblical Prophesy

Our phony christian brethren and sistern on the right delight in telling that this is a “Christian nation” and that it is “founded upon the Judeo-christian” values. They just never seem to stop, do they?

This news snippet caught my eye:

Kevin Drum, writing in his Washington Monthly online column tells about Mr Bu$h meeting with some Congressional leaders to discuss the Baker-Hamilton report on the Iraq debacle”

HARRY S BUSH....George Bush met with some Democratic leaders on Friday to review the recommendations of the ISG report and discuss the way forward in Iraq. However, they report back that he wasn't too interested in talking about this:

*****

Instead, Bush began his talk by comparing himself to President Harry S Truman, who launched the Truman Doctrine to fight communism, got bogged down in the Korean War and left office unpopular.

Bush said that "in years to come they realized he was right and then his doctrine became the standard for America," recalled Senate Majority Whip-elect Richard Durbin, D-Ill. "He's trying to position himself in history and to justify those who continue to stand by him, saying sometimes if you're right you're unpopular, and be prepared for criticism."

Durbin said he challenged Bush's analogy, reminding him that Truman had the NATO alliance behind him and negotiated with his enemies at the United Nations. Durbin said that's what the Iraq Study Group is recommending that Bush do now — work more with allies and negotiate with adversaries on Iraq.

Bush, Durbin said, "reacted very strongly. He got very animated in his response" and emphasized that he is "the commander in chief."

****

This bit reminded me about just how the phony Christians claim that the bible is very accurate in prophesying the future. I am reminded specifically of the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 11, Verse 6. I’ve taken the liberty of embolding the most pertinent part:

The wolf shall also dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

There just may be something to this bible thing…..

There are biblical places one could quote re. the Bush admin., but they are terrifying in this context, so I won't.
All I will say is that you can try to "fulfil prophecy" if you want, but the role you may be given is not yours to choose -- a prime example is Judas

Lurch,

Just a quick note, my uncle-in-law passed away last Tuesday. He was Army Air Corps in WW2, and remained in the new Air Force afterwards, taught at the Air Force Academy, worked at the Pentagon for quite some while, taught English to Russians (in Russia) after he retired, enjoyed birding all over the world, loved classical music and the Yankees. I'm sure I don't know half of what he did, but I did like him, even though he was intimidating without meaning to be that way.

Chuck, I'm gonna presume (cuz 'assume' is biblically proscribed) that when you say 'you' there you don't mean me cuz I'm just witnessing, you know?

I don't think Mr Bu$h is trying to fulfill prophesy in this particular instance; I think he does it naturally, by sheer force of personality, if you get my drift and I think you do. Now, if you want to start talking Book of the Apocalypse and sheer force of will, you might have something going on there.

WK, I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss. Your uncle-in-law certainly filfilled the phrase of passing "in the fullness of his time." I think it's good you know so much of the man and his accomplishments, because that is what a man is. His words and deeds are remembered, and as long as he remains in your hearts in one sense he never dies. Remember him and be proud of him. My condolences to your family.

Thanks Lurch. You are making me well up, and NOT in an G H W Bush way. ;-)

I think he was around 80 something. Know what? He would tell you and me that he wouldn't have had it any other way. Damn.

Of course I meant "you" in the sense of when "one".
As for Bush, it is a well known secret that he plays with the idea that "God" has chosen him to fulfill a purpose -- how much this was a ploy to a segment of his "base" and how much he really believes this kind of shit we can't know.
The point is, those who subscribe to the illusion of Apocolypse are engaging a sequence of self-fufuliing prophecy that could fuck us all in a serious way.
