Today is Gene Autry’s birthday. He was born in 1907, and if he was still alive he’d be the oldest millionaire fake cowboy in the country. Yes, even older and richer than the fake cowboy from Texas who spends all his time clearin’ brush but is askeert a‘ horses.
Gene Autry also owned a baseball team. But unlike a certain fake baseball team owner from Texas he had to earn the money to buy it.
Gene Autry believed in the Code of the West, unlike a certain Connecticut blue blood elitist establishment guy I can think of
The Cowboy Code of the West
1. The Cowboy must never shoot first, hit a smaller man, or take unfair advantage.
2. He must never go back on his word, or a trust confided in him.
3. He must always tell the truth.
4. He must be gentle with children, the elderly, and animals.
5. He must not advocate or possess racially or religiously intolerant ideas.
6. He must help people in distress.
7. He must be a good worker.
8. He must keep himself clean in thought, speech, action, and personal habits.
9. He must respect women, parents, and his nation's laws.
10. The Cowboy is a patriot.
And Gene Autry liked Sunbeam Bread – even ate the crust too, just like a real he-man, unlike a certain fake he-man I can think of.
Happy Birthday, Gene.
