As the Bu$h malAdministration once again readies to serially lie to the Congress and the American people about the mess it has created in Iraq, it’s wise to keep a few facts in mind. The surge escalation really isn’t working. Iraqis are not better off. Violence is not really down.
WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 — President Bush, appearing confident about sustaining support for his Iraq strategy, met at the Pentagon on Friday with the uniformed leaders of the nation’s armed services and then pointedly accused the war’s opponents of politicizing the debate over what to do next.“The stakes in Iraq are too high and the consequences too grave for our security here at home to allow politics to harm the mission of our men and women in uniform,” Mr. Bush said in a statement after his meeting with the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines in a briefing room known as the Tank.
The meeting, which lasted an hour and a half, was among the president’s last Iraq strategy sessions before he leaves for Australia to meet with leaders of Asian and Pacific nations. It came on the eve of a string of reports and hearings that, starting next week, could determine the course of the remaining 16 months of Mr. Bush’s presidency.
Speaking of allowing politics to harm the mission of Iraq….
Beginning on Tuesday, when Congress returns from its August recess, lawmakers are prepared to debate what to do in Iraq in daily hearings that will culminate on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11 with appearances by the ambassador to Iraq, Ryan C. Crocker, and the military commander there, Gen. David H. Petraeus. [emph added]
Just in case anyone is confused about precisely who is politicizing Iraq. Mr Bu$h and his vassals, including GEN Petraeus, have been very busy over the last three weeks assaulting the logic centers of Americans, insisting that once again up is down, black is white, and Proust was right – this is the best of all possible worlds. Since the unsustainable escalation in manpower designed to attrite the Mahdi Army of Moqtada al-Sadr before our unprovoked (and probably nuclear) attack on Iran began we’ve been hearing how violence is down, and American losses are lower.
Here are the facts, presented in graphic form, even though my readers are quite capable of reading and understanding words:

The US figures are inaccurate because it is official policy that if a soldier or Marine is say, shot right between his eyes, but is still alive when he’s put on the medevac plane to Landstuhl hospital in Germany, he’s only wounded. If he dies en route, or at the hospital, then he’s officially not an “Iraq casualty.” The Pentagon has been obediently lying to its taxpayers and employers right along, at the command of the Bu$h malAdministration.
Further, the liars in Washington (and the Pentagon) like to point out that the deaths were lower in June and July 2007 – you know – since one of the alleged dates of the start of the surge escalation.
In the field of Logic, a discipline taught in major colleges, this is an error of logic called “bullshit.” That’s one reason why the 2006 figures were included. Summer is not the campaign American scalp season in Iraq. August 2007 is way up over August 2006: 81 this year against 65 last year. Why is the death toll higher this year? I don’t know. Maybe they’ve Just. Finally. Had. Enough. What do you think?

Bear in mind that the Iraq civilian death figure is for reported deaths. If Americans have learned one thing it is that civilian deaths in Iraq are much higher than reported figures because many dead civilians are just buried by their grieving families without bothering to report the deaths to a dysfunctional national government, which really doesn’t seem to care very much. That may be caused by the simple fact that the Iraq government exists as an entity to protect the Shia, but not Sunni, members of the society.
By the way, is it merely serendipity that the Iraq government doesn't much care about its citizens in much the same way that the Bu$h malAdministration doesn't care about its citizens?

The Security forces losses are probably more accurate since those dead have their names on rolls and can be checked off.
Mr Bu$h appears confident about the forth-coming monkey show in Congress because he’s doing what he loves to do: piss in someone’s face and dare them to do anything about it. Congress of course will do nothing because Mr Bu$h owns their useless asses.
Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi will probably give GEN Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker standing ovations as they lie through their teeth on the day that should be reserved for mourning the death of Americans ignored by George Bu$h until they became useful political props.
